The project was created in 2020 and celebrates its third Mednight. MEDNIGHT 2023 is coordinated by the Greek non-profit organisation SciCo and features the joint participation of 10 institutions. Foundation for the Promotion of Health and Biomedical Research of Valencia Region (FISABIO); European Women Rectors Associacion (EWORA); Fundación para la Investigación del Hospital Clínico de la Comunitat Valenciana (INCLIVA); the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC); Fundación Museo Didáctico e Interactivo de Ciencias de la Vega Baja del Segura de la Comunitat Valenciana (MUDIC); University of Messina; University of Kadir Has Istambul; El Caleidoscopio and SciCo Cyprus.
Each institution of the consortium will carry out its own activities and several transnational activities (transactivities) in a coordinated way, which together, will give shape to MEDNIGHT 2023. From April until the night of September 29, the cities of Lesvos, Valencia, Messina, Istambul, San Juan, Orihuela, Torrevieja, Nicosia and El Cairo, will host events with different workshops and activities for scientific outreach. Between June and September, exhibits, guided visits, discussions and challenges related to research intended for different audiences will take place to emphasize the value of Mediterranean science.

MEDNIGHT 2023 has the support and recognition of the Community of Mediterranean Universities (CMU) and the Mediterranean Universities Union (MUU).

Mednight 2023 has established links and partnerships with other European nights, such as Mednight Goes to Schools, Ocean Night and Night Connect.

In addition, municipalities of coastal cities will participate and help to carry out the proposed activities. Non-profit organizations such as Karam and Eurorelief (Refugee Aid Group), Ecologistas en Acción, Fridays for Future, Todos por la Mar (marine and environmental regeneration of the Mediterranean), and other scientific associations will collaborate with the involvement of different audiences in the activities.

MEDNIGHT 2023 is also supported by the National Research Center in Cairo, the Institute of Neurosciences in Alicante and several researchers from leading centres in Italy, Tunisia and Lebanon. In addition, MEDNIGHT 2023 will have access to hospitals and care homes for the elderly where some activities will take place in several of the participating countries.
