Plastics represent the main source of litter in the oceans; as any other artificial and hydrophobic surface, can be exploited and colonised more or less rapidly by organisms that, over time, can give rise to authentic biocoenosis. The term “plastisphere” has recently been coined to describe this aspect. This proposal, which will be included as part of the MEDNIGHT 2022 event in the “Sea and pollution” thematic area, includes an exhibition of plastic substrates recovered from the Strait of Messina and games aimed at children, in order to increase public awareness of this sensitive issue.
