Meet the Mediterranean Science Team 2025
Researchers’ Virtual Meeting with Schools across the Mediterranean and beyond
Date: November 7th, 2025 — Marie Curie’s Birthday
Time: 09:30–12:00 CET
Format: Online
On November 7th, the Mediterranean Researchers’ Night (MEDNIGHT) will celebrate Marie Curie’s birthday by bringing together students and researchers in a unique online event, Meet the Mediterranean Science Team 2025. This special session will connect schools from across the Mediterranean region and beyond with eight outstanding scientists representing Portugal, Italy, Greece, Slovenia, Lebanon, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Egypt.
Through a series of short, accessible presentations and live Q&A sessions, students will explore topics ranging from health and biodiversity to environmental science and innovation. The goal of the event is to spark curiosity, inspire the next generation of scientists, and show how research transcends borders to connect cultures.
This year’s edition has seen exceptional participation, with twenty-five schools registered from eight countries — Greece, Italy, Spain, France, Croatia, Romania, Albania and Türkiye. From primary classrooms to senior high schools, students across the region will come together to engage directly with the Mediterranean Science Team and experience science as a shared Mediterranean language.
The event will open with welcoming remarks by Professor Dr. Gülşun Sağlamer, followed by presentations from leading researchers including Dr. Mónica Bettencourt-Dias, Prof. Paola Bonfante, Dr. Elpiniki Ninou, Dr. Francesca Romana Recchia Luciani, Dr. Urška Lampe, Dr. Lubna Dada, Dr. Jelena Vladić, Dr. Belma Kalamujić Stroil, and Dr. Sherine Ahmed El Baradei. The session will be moderated by Ms. Hülya Çağlayan from the European Women Rectors Association (EWORA).
Participating schools will receive certificates of participation and are encouraged to prepare questions for the scientists in advance. The event will take place via Google Meet, with access provided to all registered institutions.
Meet the Mediterranean Science Team 2025 is part of the MEDNIGHT initiative — the Mediterranean Researchers’ Night — which, Funded by the European Union, celebrates science across borders and highlights the contributions of Mediterranean researchers to global knowledge.
