On Wednesday 26th February, monitors from the MUDIC (Museo Didactico Interactivo de Ciencias de la Vega Baja del Segura) brought Mediterranean science to the Virgen de la Arrixaca Maternity and Children’s Hospital in Murcia. The visit, which took place in the morning, consisted of several educational activities aimed at the students in the hospital classroom.

The session began with a participatory show Mind the Lab, entitled “Water: Necessary and surprising”. The boys and girls in attendance were able to learn about the physical and chemical properties of water first-hand thanks to interactive demonstrations on capillarity, surface tension, melting point and heat capacity.

Next, the reading of “Los susurros del Mediterráneo: El viaje de Sofía” was carried out. This story, whose message is a love song to the Mediterranean and its conservation, was written by Sophia Kourapidi and won an award in the 5th Tales from MEDNIGHT Short Story Competition. It is included in the book “Los cuentos de la MEDNIGHT 2024. Edición Junior”, which can be downloaded from this link: https://mednight.eu/tales-from-mednight-2024/

The session continued with a workshop on agriculture in which attendees learned about the particularities of the regional garden, its products and its seasons.

Finally, some math magic tricks such as the magic square were shown.

This visit is aligned with the program of scientific activities that the Hospital and Home Educational Care Team of the Region of Murcia carries out every Wednesday.
