On 5th May 2023 the online event “Mednight Challenge Italia – MEDITERRANEAN SEA” was held.
The webinar, aimed at secondary school students, was conducted by three pairs of researchers from the University of Messina, who developed topics related to the protection of the Mediterranean Sea.

In particular, after the institutional greetings, Filippo Giarratana and Luca Nalbone spoke of “Effects of climate change on marine fauna and microfauna”. Then Elpida Piperopoulos and Luigi Calabrese tackled the topic “Sustainability and the sea: how to avoid the point of no return” and finally Francesca Liga and Federica Papa entertained the kids on the topic “Listen to the sea: our civic commitment for the protection of ‘environment”.

The event was proposed on the Teams platform and also streamed on fb: https://fb.me/e/RO9azm3w, and was followed by around 200 students.

Students were encouraged to participate in an Instagram contest by sending photos or videos to the @medchallengeita account.
Contributions can be sent to the @medchallengeita Instagram account until 20:00 on 25 September 2023. They will be published on the Instagram page on 26 September 2023, and will remain visible on the page until 20:00 on 27 September.
At 20:00 on 28 September the names of the top three winners will be published, who will receive a prize on 29 September 2023, during the Mediterranean Night of Female Researchers.

The score that will be assigned for the evaluation of each contribution will be given for 50% by the number of likes obtained on instagram, and for the remaining 50% by the judgment expressed by the jury formed by the webinar speakers.
