The representation of marine fauna is particularly frequent in archaeological and numismatic documentation, and the focus on aquatic species is reflected in various literary and historical sources from the Greco-Roman period. The multi- and inter-disciplinary approach to the study of these iconographic subjects through the involvement of marine biology highlights new and articulated links between human communities and marine phenomenologies.
