Sustainable greenhouse farming systems: from sun to fork
The main goal of Sun2Fork is to develop an integrated sustainable greenhouse farming system through the adoption of energy-efficient photovoltaic systems coupled with hydroponic solutions, sustainable substrates, biostimulants and reuse of drainage water to guarantee long-term environmental and socioeconomic sustainability of greenhouse farming in the Mediterranean region (Figure 1). The adoption of IoT will make the Mediterranean greenhouse a sustainable, low-cost, ‘intelligent’ and ‘modern’ cultivation environment, equipped with technological devices and integrated sensors, which will provide real-time information for the management of integrated greenhouse systems with positive economic (circular economy) and environmental (renewable energy, saving water resources, reduction of synthetic products) repercussions.
