Circular economy at Km 0: bio-plastics for LIFE

This reality that creates a 0 km circular economy is entirely Messina and Sicilian, that is, from waste to bioplastic pellets produced by the zero factory in Roccavaldina (ME) with the “Ecobuddy” brand. Thanks to the LIFE RESTART project, Reuse of beeer SpenT grAin for bioplastics, co-financed by the European Union, LIFE Program (LIFE21-ENV-IT-LIFE RESTART/101074314) in which UNIME developed bioplastics from beer processing waste (brewer spent grain) supplied by the Messina Brewery. Vases, caps, forks, coffee capsules, jewellery, objects that can be made with 3D printing, etc. they are the first prototypes created that represent an ecological alternative to non-biodegradable plastic of fossil origin. They bio-degrade in a few months.

In short: enough plastic pollution!
