Innovative ideas and solutions to solve the problem of marine pollution

According to recent studies, every year 8 million tons of plastic end up in the oceans that by degrading into microplastics constitute the main threat to the marine ecosystem. In recent years, many innovative solutions have been proposed to fight pollution and try to reduce the amount of plastic in the ocean. On the occasion of Mednight 2023, two different experiments will be illustrated and reproduced: a first experiment is aimed at the removal of microplastic from water samples using ferrofluids; the second experiment will reproduce the production of edible plastic obtained from sodium alginate, the main molecule of algae.
