From the amazing sea of Panarea to the disappearing sea of Meridiani Planum on Mars
Between Panarea and Basiluzzo islet, secondary submarine volcanic activity (hydrothermalism) has produced a sand of tiny spherules composed of iron oxides. NASA’s Opportunity rover discovered such spherules on an ancient dried-up seabed in an area of Mars known as Meridiani Planum. Through videos, posters, links to the NASA website and rock samples, visitors will be taken on a journey through time and space from Panarea to Mars. It will also be possible to pilot a remotely guided vehicle (R.O.V.), simulating marine exploration activities.
