The trilingual (Italian, Slovenian, English) interactive travelling exhibition MEMORIE LIBERATE / OSVOBOJENI SPOMINI / UNCHAINED MEMORIES: Famiglie e memorie dei prigionieri di guerra italiani in Jugoslavia dopo la seconda guerra mondiale / Družine in spomini italijanskih vojnih ujetnikov v Jugoslaviji po drugi svetovni vojni / Families and memories of Italian prisoners of war in Yugoslavia after the Second World War explores the experience of former Italian prisoners of war in Yugoslavia and, in particular, the long-term impact of captivity on their families and descendants. The exhibition narrates a marginalised topic, which continues to influence people’s lives and relationships, especially in the Italo-Slovenian borderland. It consists of written materials, numerous photographs and documents, as well as podcasts composed of segments of interviews conducted by the author with family members of former prisoners of war.
The physical exhibition was inaugurated on 23 April 2024 at the University Ca’ Foscari in Venice (San Sebastiano). It is a travelling exhibition, being hosted in different cities in Italy and Slovenia.
