In celebration of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science (11F), the Mednight initiative brought together a global network of activities spanning Europe, Africa, South America, and Asia. From inspiring talks to interactive workshops, institutions and communities mobilized to highlight the vital role of women in STEM and ignite passion for science among future generations of girls.
Global Engagement Across Continents
Mednight’s 11F celebrations spanned several countries, including:
- Spain: Events were held in Madrid, Alicante, Murcia and Valencia. Activities included talks, workshops, and exhibitions like “The Marie Curies of the Mediterranean” and “Mediterranean Faces of Science.”
- Italy: In Messina, the University of Messina hosted events integrating art, science, and well-being. Castiglione del Lago saw primary schools engaging in science labs organized by MCAA Italy Chapter.
- France: In Paris, the “Women in Science: Research, Resolve, Revolution” conference featured prominent female scientists discussing their research and experiences in STEM fields. In Montpellier and around, 17 women researchers visited 1 school, 1 middleschool and 6 highschools.
- Ireland: A school visit in Dublin included storytelling sessions and food science activities designed to engage young girls and spark their interest in STEM careers.
- Turkey: In Istanbul, events focused on integrating art, science, and well-being to foster interest in STEM among girls and women.
- Nigeria: In Kaduna state, Abuja and Lagos, interactive STEM workshops were conducted for girls, aiming to ignite curiosity and challenge gender stereotypes in education.
- Indonesia: Events focused on energy and sustainability, inspiring Indonesian women in STEM fields.
- Argentina: The MCAA Argentina Chapter celebrated 11F with activities encouraging girls to envision themselves as future scientists.
- India: Initiatives titled “Strong Scientific Research for NextGen GirlGeeks” were launched to promote scientific research among young girls.
- Bosnia and Herzegovina: The “SCI-SHE-THEY create the world through science” event highlighted the contributions of women in science and encouraged girls to pursue STEM careers.
