February 11 is the International Day of Women and Girls in Science. The Didactic and Interactive Museum of Science (MUDIC), in collaboration with El Caleidoscopio, has organized different talks by female researchers with schoolchildren to show female role models in science and stimulate the scientific vocation of students.

On Friday, 7th of February, the researcher of the University of Valencia, Ana María Sabater, went to the high school “Sant Vicent del Raspeig” in San Vicente del Raspeig. Students from several levels enjoyed four didactic talks about ecohidrology, the area in which Ana María is specialized.

On Tuesday, 11th of February, we organized serveral talks. The researcher of the University Miguel Hernández, Marina Cano, went to the high school “Montserrat Roig” in Elche . The students enjoyed a didactic talk about aquaculture, the area in which her is specialized.

Also, Miguel Hernández University researcher Laura Pérez attended the IES Macia Abela in Crevillente. The students enjoyed an educational talk about neuroscience, an area in which she specializes. The talk showed the girls that there are female role models in science and motivated them to pursue a scientific career.

On the same day, IREMA fertility clinic scientist Rosana Ribes attended “L’Era” school in Senija. The students enjoyed an educational talk about assisted reproduction.

Also on the 11th of February, Ana López, a researcher from the University of Granada, attended the IES Malladeta in Villajoyosa. She gave a talk about intestinal microbiology.

The University of Alicante researcher, María Ángeles Alonso, attended the IES Hermanos Amorós in Villena also on Tuesday, February 11. The students enjoyed an educational talk about the role of women in botany.

ISABIAL researcher Raquel Ajo attended the Salesianos School in Campello, giving a talk about cardiology.

Miguel Hernández University researcher Laura García attended the Alonai School in Santa Pola also on the International Day of Women and Girls in Scince. The students enjoyed an educational talk about food science and technology.

During the week, MUDIC scheduled five talks by female researchers from the Miguel Hernandez Universit at the Polythecnic School of Orihuela.

On Monday, February 10, Alicia Dobón gave a talk on how to improve the quality of pepper crops.

On Tuesday, February 11, Marina Gálvez, gave a talk about goat farming for milk production.

On Wednesday, February 12, Marina Giménez gave a presentation on how artichokes can be a key crop in a food revolution.

On Thursday, February 13, Clara María Muñoz shared her research aimed at improving the valorization of food products with bioactive compounds.

On Friday, February 14, Silvia Sánchez gave a talk about the valoriation of subproducts that we usually throw in the garbage.

On Tuesday, February 11, Lola Dominguez, industrial engineer and project manager for renewable energies at iberdrola, visits the institute Figueras Pacheco that formed her in the Babel distric of Alicante.

Also on the 11th of February, María Norte, PhD from the University of Murcia. Her work focuses on using the retina as a window to the brain, visits the Maria Moliner School in Pilar de la Horadada

These activities inspired girls to pursue a scientific career, showing female researchers as role models for younger girls.
