“The Marie Curies of the Mediterranean” exhibition opened on January 20th at Austrian Academy of Sciences in Vienna.
The opening programme included a panel discussion, where MCAA’s Executive Director, Mostafa Moonir Shawrav and MCAA North America Chapter Chair Sabina Cveček shared their insights on empowering women in science. The Chair of our Austria Chapter, James Jennings, presented his MSCA story as well.
As a current Marie Skłodowska-Curie Global Fellow (MSCA GF) at the Field Museum of Natural History in Chicago and the Austrian Academy of Sciences in Vienna with her X-KIN project, Sabina Cveček presented herself in this exhibition. In the story she shared with the public, she expressed her excitement for interdisciplinary research between socio-cultural anthropology and archaeology and outline an academic journey from Ljubljana via Vienna, where she pursued her PhD, to Chicago.
The exhibition was designed by the Marie Curie Alumni Association and El Caleidoscopio, partners of the MEDNIGHT consortium, and brought to Vienna by the Austrian Archaeological Institute and Austrian Academy of Sciences.
The Marie Curies of the Mediterranean« celebrates the lives and achievements of female scientists and researchers from the Mediterranean region who have received the prestigious Marie Curie fellowships from the European Union and/or contributed to it through their work. The exhibition is a collection of 29 panels offering an intimate view of each. Each panel includes a biography that spans from their childhood and motivations to their university studies and professional achievements. These diverse backgrounds reflect the richness of the Mediterranean region. Additionally, it highlights the impact of the Marie Curie fellowships on their careers and provides a glimpse into their hobbies and family life.
