MEDNIGHT consortium composed of entities from 8 different Mediterranean countries, will present “The Marie Curies of the Mediterranean” exhibition.The exhibition’s opening will take place simultaneously in Alicante (Spain), Milano and Messina (Italy), Monastir (Tunisia), Istanbul (Turkey), Nicosia (Cyprus) and Cazin (Bosnia) on September 6 and in Xanti and Athens (Greece) on September 8.
“The Marie Curies of the Mediterranean” celebrates the lives and achievements of female scientists and researchers from the Mediterranean region who have received the prestigious Marie Curie fellowships from the European Union and/or contributed to it through their work. The exhibition is a collection of 29 panels offering an intimate view of each. Each panel includes a biography that spans from their childhood and motivations to their university studies and professional achievements. These diverse backgrounds reflect the richness of the Mediterranean region. Additionally, it highlights the impact of the Marie Curie fellowships on their careers and provides a glimpse into their hobbies and family life.
“The Marie Curies of the Mediterranean”, which has been translated into nine languages and is displayed in various European, Asian, African, and American countries, represents scientists and researchers from 22 countries, 19 of which are Mediterranean. This global reach underscores the shared values and aspirations of the scientific community. Its main objectives are to inspire younger generations, highlight the Mediterranean region’s cultural richness and scientific talent, and increase women’s visibility in science and research.
MEDNIGHT invites citizens to discover and celebrate the stories of these extraordinary women by visiting the exhibition designed by El Caleidoscopio and the Marie Curie Alumni Association, partners of the MEDNIGHT consortium and funded by the MSCA programme of the European Union in the context of the European Researchers’ Night, a pan-European event promoted by the European Union to bring science and society closer and heighten young people’s interest in science The European Researchers’ Night takes place in 23 countries and more than 400 cities all over Europe and beyond simultaneously.
