To mark World Environment Day on June 5th, EWORA organized a series of science workshops and experiments for the students of ITU DF Dr. Sedat Üründül Preschool as part of the MEDNIGHT project. Held on June 5-6, young students not only enjoyed themselves but also learned about the factors contributing to global warming. Click here to watch the highlight video of these events.

Five-year-old students took part in the “Mind the Lab” workshop, focusing on water pollution under the theme “Sea and Pollution,” conducted by Aquatayf Biotechnology. This company is located at ITU ARI Technopark, which highlights the connection and collaboration with technology companies. Six-year-old students attended a presentation titled “Let’s Protect Our Nature: The Mediterranean, Climate Change, and the MEDNIGHT Project,” delivered by EWORA.

Four-year-old students enjoyed the “Mind the Lab” activity titled “Science Discover Day: From Volcanoes to Fluids,” organized by ITU DF Ekrem Elginkan High School students. Here, they learned about the factors influencing global warming. This particular activity has been especially important since it included transgenerational learning from high school students to preschool students. Throughout this activity, high school students also both contributed to and learned from MEDNIGHT.

Additionally, the “Yes to Science” team conducted an interactive experiment under the theme “Climate and Clean Energy,” where students created smoke-filled soap bubbles. This fun activity provided insights into climate change and the melting of glaciers.

From May 27 to June 7, 2024, MEDNIGHT also hosted the “Mediterranean Women for Health Exhibition” at ITU DF Dr. Sedat Üründül Preschool. This exhibition allowed students to learn about pioneering women scientists from the 20th and 21st centuries who have made significant contributions to their fields.

Throughout the two-day event, students participated in simple and safe science experiments and interactive games. The presentations and hands-on activities instilled a sense of responsibility in the young participants to protect their environment. EWORA and MEDNIGHT aimed to introduce these young minds to the world of science and increase their awareness of finding solutions to environmental problems.

Through these initiatives, EWORA, as part of the MEDNIGHT project, continues to foster a love for science and environmental stewardship among the younger generation, aligning with its mission to spread scientific knowledge and awareness. In these science-filled activities, EWORA highlighted the importance of early science education via MEDNIGHT.
