Does the sea have oxygen? Let’s measure it…
In the room of the Chemistry Laboratory of the Department of Oceanography and Marine Life Sciences, students are informed about the most important quality parameter of a body of water, the dissolved oxygen gas in seawater. Reference is made to the method of collecting seawater samples as well as to the physicochemical and biological processes that occur in the sea and affect the concentration of the gas. Students familiarize themselves with the glassware and equipment of the Chemistry Laboratory by applying, under the guidance of Laboratory members, a classic chemical method for the determination of dissolved oxygen in a sample of seawater, the Winkler method.
