Agroecological approaches for innovative and sustainable management of natural risources: soil, water and atmosphere (GAIA)
GAIA aims to foster the diffusion of innovative strategies to enhance the sustainability of cropping systems in the Mediterranean context. By implementing a multidisciplinary, integrated, and multi-actor approach, the project aims: (i) to assess the health status of arable soils in Sicily; (ii) to study the agronomic effects of using conservative and innovative strategies on herbaceous, tree, and vegetable crops; (iii) to analyze the socio-economic impacts of the studied agronomic practices; and (iv) to identify the best strategies to transfer innovations locally by studying the socio-economic dynamics characterizing the Sicilian agricultural system.
