What’s inside a plant?

Plants are living beings… even if you don’t see them move. All the information needed to make new plants, that their flowers have bright colors or that smell good, is stored in the same molecule that makes us have two arms and two legs, a brain or eyes of a certain color. The activity “Their genes in your hands” will demonstrate that plants possess DNA that contains all the genetic information; despite being a microscopic molecule, we can obtain and see it. With the activity “The hidden colors”, a separation of photosynthetic pigments will be carried out and we will be able to see what colors are hidden behind a green leaf of a plant. The activities of this workshop of the Instituto de Biología Molecular y Celular de Plantas (IBMCP) are aimed at primary and secondary students.
