“Romancero Gitano” by Mario Castelnuovo Tedesco

The Romancero Gitano is a work for solo guitar and choir that Castelnuovo-Tedesco composed in 1951. The poetic verses entrusted to the choir are taken from the collection “Poema del Cante Jondo” by Federico García Lorca. Castelnuovo-Tedesco uses the guitar to combine the humanity of the voices with a wise and incorporeal sound presence, truthful and unreal, which is, compared to the world, the divinatory voice of the shamans. The poetry of Federico García Lorca had guided him to this, remote like the cante jondo, alive like every moment of the “reo tempo” that flees. (duration 25 min.)
