About us

SCICO

The non-profit organization SciCo (Science Communication) has as its vision to make science simple and accessible to the public and to encourage people to think in a scientific way. Goals of the organization are:

  • The promotion of science communication
  • The scientific participation and empowerment of teachers, students and citizens
  • Enhancing the image of the researcher/scientist in society
  • To stimulate young people’s interest in science and their respect for the environment, promoting active participation

SciCo as a proud partner and organizer of the Mediterranean Researchers’ Night in Greece and Cyprus will create a series of unique events. On 7-8 April, on the Greek island of Lesvos, the first kick off meeting took place, where SciCo, as coordinator of this year’s Mediterranean Researchers’ Night, welcomed its partners to the local premises of the University of the Aegean. At the meeting, instructions were given to the partners for the conduct of the activity “Mind the Lab”, which aims at the direct and stimulating communication of science to the public .

Last year, the opening ceremony took place on June 3 on the Greek island of Lemnos, having been the first of 300+ activities that took place to celebrate the Mediterranean Researcher Night throughout the Mediterranean. SciCo, in collaboration with the University of the Aegean and the Technical University of Crete from June to September, held exhibitions, workshops, lectures, discussions and research-related scientific challenges for different audiences to emphasize the value of Mediterranean science.
