In the general context of the European Parliament’s Green Deal Decision on the Green Transition and the energy efficiency of transport to achieve its goals for energy saving as well as the specialized measures for shipping of the “Fit for 55” package of measures, the University of the Aegean is proceeding to study of the Shipping industry to highlight the optimal way of its energy transition to the use of more environmentally friendly energy technologies by leveraging Norwegian know-how that has been tested in the North Sea and the Norwegian coast. The main objective of the operation is to investigate the best ways to facilitate the transition of the existing Greek ferry-coastal ferry system to a more sustainable operation, through the use of purely electric and/or hybrid ships, leveraging Norway’s know-how and Greece’s experience.
