Biopolymers: Innovative plastic materials

On the occasion of Mednight 2024, some research activities dedicated to the formulation of new biopolymer-based materials will be illustrated. These materials find application in various fields, not only in the biomedical one. For example, in agriculture, polysaccharide-based hydrogels have proven to be a valid and eco-sustainable alternative to increase the percentage of germination of arable crops, or as a substrate to disperse nutrients and microorganisms. The audience will be offered the opportunity to carry out simple experiments aimed at the production of edible and biodegradable hydrogels and bioplastics ideal for food packaging instead of traditional and polluting synthetic plastics.
