Chemical analyses and throughput of Hermetia illucens larvae to optimize products with high nutritional value with a reduced ecological footprint
The optimization and chemical monitoring of Hermetia illucens larvae throughput, involving grinding, extraction with green solvents and digestions achieved by naturally occurring enzymes, can allow the yet demonstrated yield of high nutritional products and/or products endowed with technological worth with the minimal ecological footprint. Water soluble extracts and enzyme digested fractions yield worthy feeds for animals. Fatty fractions, recovered by natural organic liquids, can become biofuels, and the insoluble matter with its polymeric substrates can get new life as biodegradable coating material and packaging (bio-materials)
