The stories selected will be displayed in hospitals, residences for the elderly and immigration centers
The theme of the stories must address some scientific aspect related to the Mediterranean
The Didactic and Interactive Museum of Sciences of the Vega Baja del Segura, MUDIC, is organizing MEDNIGHT Stories—the first international contest for stories about the Mediterranean.
MEDNIGHT stories is an inclusive activity of the Mediterranean Researchers’ Night, MEDNIGHT. It is the first literary contest for science-themed stories related to the Mediterranean.
The subjects proposed are: Mediterranean Sea; anthropology and history; pollution; biodiversity; women and science; climate emergency; geology; engineering; diet and nutrition; renewable energies; and astronomy, in general, and scientific or technological theme, as long as they are linked with the countries of the Mediterranean basin.
The objective is to bring Mediterranean science to sectors of the population that are often ignored in outreach activities. Thus, the winning stories will be represented in a fun and entertaining manner for hospitalized children, migrants in immigration centers and the elderly living in residences. They can also be represented during astronomy observation activities.
The MEDNIGHT Stories will be read out loud on September 24 in events of the Mediterranean Researchers’ Night, in different cities of the Valencian Community, Spain, Greece and Cyprus.
Open contest. Interesting for professors, researchers, journalists and writers.
The stories can be submitted electronically via the form provided on the website of the European Researchers’ Night (MEDNIGHT).
The bases and online training will be available at the same address. The minimum word count is 300 and the maximum is 1500. The stories selected will also be published online and their ISBN will be managed.
MUDIC also offers a course to turn you into a short story writer
The Didactic and Interactive Museum of Sciences of the Vega Baja del Segura (MUDIC) offers the competitors an online course about how to prepare a story of scientific outreach, which will consist of an online storywriting workshop.
For the first time, monitors, scientists and researchers will read the MEDNIGHT stories in hospitals, immigrant centers, and residencies for the elderly, supported by other scientific, recreational and outreach activities.
The objective of MUDIC with the MEDNIGHT Stories is to bring Mediterranean science, in a fun and entertaining manner, closer to those who have the most difficulty accessing science activities, and at the same time, have suffered the worst impact due to the SARS-COV2 pandemic. It is an inclusive activity, with the objective of bringing science to society.
The General Subdirectorate for Teacher Training of the Department of Education, Culture and Sports of the Valencian Government, collaborates in the dissemination of this initiative.
