Biological effect of Hermetia illucens exstracts

The Hermetia illucens larvae possess a high nutritional value and also  several pharmacologically active molecules. Of particular interest are the antioxidant, anti-inflammatory capacity and thus the nutraceutical potential of extracts derived from Hermetia illucens larvae. To evaluate its biological activity, the in vitro study is a fundamental step in the “drug discovery” process. The biological effects of these extracts are evaluated on different cell lines such as hepatocytes, neurons and macrophages. These cell lines exposed to inflammatory stimuli and oxidative stress allow us to identify the biological activity of potential new nutraceutical compounds, for the subsequent stages of research.
